I know I’ve been pretty MIA lately… so here is the reason:
Brandon and I spent the long weekend getting to know Riley, our new mini wirehaired dachsie puppy. She’s a handful, but is the cutest, most wonderful little puppy. I could go on forever, but I won’t!
Here is one of the projects I’ve been working on… my good friend and sorority sister Nan is getting married tomorrow!! I was waiting to post this until after the wedding, but I have a feeling she has more important things to do than read my blog so I’ll take a chance! In addition to her wedding gift, I made her and Cooper some personalized stationary! The pictures aren’t very good quality so I apologize.
And the finished product!
I am also creating her wedding topper. She wanted a cursive L monogram topper made of gumpaste. I am decorating it with slightly golden pearlized dragees and outlining it with royal icing with a light golden sheen. I will post the finished product soon!
Have a great weekend!!

I have been doing some serious blog-slacking lately. And I will be out of town all weekend (picking up a new addition to the family and celebrating mom’s birthday). But don’t worry – I have a few artsy projects I’m working on – both of which are surprises so I will be posting them after the recipients receive them!
If heaven is anything like I think it will be…(other than having a multitude of dachshund puppies) it might closely resemble the Cake Art PartyStore in Tucker, Georgia. I learned about this store from reading Bakeralla’s blog. She is a FANTASTIC baker and blogger. This is a store that she freqents for baking and cake decorating supplies. They must have every type, color and flavor sprinkle you’ve ever seen in your life – and if you know me, you know that I can stare at sprinkles all day. Here are a few pictures from her blog…
How amazing is that! And here is a picture of the pan isle…
I did some google mapping and I am approximately 10 hours away. However, Tucker, GA is extremely close to Atlanta so I might have to find an excuse to go!
I urge you to look at the rest of her pictures on her blog post… as well as all of her blog entries. She is amazing! The links are here and here!
So I finally got my pictures off Brandon’s camera. Here is my sister’s birthday cake that I did…
Vanilla buttercream and pineapple cake. It was pretty good!
And then I made an anniversary cake for a co-worker. He allowed me to play around with the design. I thought about using gumpaste flowers… but I ended up decorating with raspberries. It was pineapple cake with raspberry brandy filling.
I should have taken a picture of the cake BEFORE I put it in the box, but I didn’t. I used my texture tool on the sides. As for the message- I have a little practicing to do. I swear it didn’t look as crooked in person, but I was overall very happy with the outcome!
UPDATE!
Mike Ciota was so kind as to send me a few pictures as he and his wife celebrated their anniversary and cut the cake!

Since I haven’t posted in awhile… mostly because I had to wait to post my last cake because it was a surprise for my sister’s birthday and the pictures aren’t on my camera… here is a recipe from Zoe Francois that she posted on her blog “Zoe Bakes“. I adore her blog and follow it pretty religiously! She is extremely talented!
This particular recipe is “Bread on a Stick” and they look really good!! It isn’t a cake or cupcake or paper product, but it would make a tasty breakfast!

I was a VERY happy baker this weekend. Why? Because Virginia Tech dominated Miami – something very few saw coming, 31 – 7. We are now sitting comfortably in the #6 positon in both the AP Top 25 poll as well as the USA Today poll.
Enough about football – but the moral of the story is – I brought some chocolate cupcakes into work today. I altered my classic almond buttercream and created a chocolate buttercream. I also worked on a mini tiered cake that will go up on Tuesday.
Happy Monday!

This Saturday we play Miami in football. This is a big game for us – we barely beat Nebraska last Saturday. This means that I will either be a happy baker on Sunday … or a very unhappy baker on Sunday. We’ve won our last 10 home games … I am praying for #11. If they win, I’ve decided that I will be bringing chocolate football cupcakes into work.

The Knot posted a recent article about current wedding cake trends. The one I liked the most is below:
BUTTERCREAM-FROSTED CAKES!
article: 7 Wedding Cake Trends
cake by Gail Watson of New York
I clearly like this because this is the main focus of my cakes! I try to target brides on a budget and I also believe that simple cakes can be very elegant. Fondant is fun and can be very gorgeous, it is just a little more expensive! Another option is a small, intricate wedding cake covered in fondant and cupcakes that resemble the main cake for the guests!

I came across these cupcakes by Wildflower Bread Company (via twitpic) in Arizona and loved the idea! As you may or may not know, I’m a Zeta Tau Alpha Alum and our philanthropy is Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. Needless to say, I am very passionate about the cause and spent several hours raising money for the cause with my sorority at Virginia Tech. We actually had a bake sale one year and I made breast cancer ribbon cookies and boobie cupcakes. Right about now I really wish I would have taken a picture! (In case you were wondering, they sold out first) Anyway, here are the beautiful cupcakes!
I am definitely going to try to bake something pink for the cause next month…

After my baking marathon/kitchenaid-mixer-breaking-in/craving for sweets yesterday, below are the results! In addition to the cake balls in my last post, I also made mini cupcakes! Pineapple, red velvet and classic white almond!
